HRSG Updates & Automates CMA Ontario’s Candidate Assessment Process

In its capacity as an accreditation body, Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Ontario currently receives upwards of 1,000 applications per year from candidates eager to secure the CMA designation.

Until May of 2009, CMA Ontario used a paper-based system to collect candidate education and experience in order to vet the level of competency achieved, which proved to have a number of challenges.

> Candidates found the paper form time consuming and difficult to interpret and complete.

> There was very little uniformity from candidate to candidate in their experiential responses vis à vis the CMA competencies.  

> Assessors had difficulty validating the information provided.

Solution

CMA Ontario contracted HRSG to secure help in moving to an on-line submission model for candidates’ applications thus streamlining the process, improving the consistency and transparency of the adjudication process and making the on-line application more easily understood by the candidates.

The project involves adapting the capabilities of HRSG's proprietary software to automate the candidate application and assessor validation processes. HRSG also developed behavioral indicators for each the 10 CMA competencies based on a four-level proficiency scale consistent with the existing CMA framework.
